Halloween is a special time of year when people celebrate the timeless act of scaring the pants off of themselves. Doctor Who is a show that has always flirted with horror and scares, from the Daleks to the Weeping Angels, making it one of the perfect substitutes for the traditional slasher horror movie marathon on Halloween night. The Centenary Special set to air in October 2022 continues the recent tradition of Halloween episodes that began with the Flux plot in 2021....

The Doctor Who Christmas special is an annual tradition now, and one which fans thoroughly enjoy since, broadly speaking, the specials are lighter in tone, more comedic, and an all-round enjoyable standalone episode. This year’s special will no doubt be greeted eagerly since Doctor Who has been off of our screens since the end of season nine, with season ten not set to air until spring 2017. We already know that the new companion, Bill (Pearl Mackie), won’t make her debut this Christmas, and the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) will be sharing his festive adventure with a temporary companion (thought to be Matt Lucas as Nardole), but beyond that, we don’t know much else....

When it comes to adaptations, few have as testy a relationship as that between The Shining film and the novel. Stephen King famously disagrees with Kubrick’s vision, yet both are regarded as some of the best horror fiction ever created. With Doctor Sleep, Mike Flannagan aimed to resolve the two, creating a sequel that both honored the cinematic legacy of The Shining, as well as the peerless work of Stephen King....

Doctor Sleep, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, introduces a frightening new antagonist: Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), who leads a tribe of near-immortal creatures that feed on children with psychic abilities. These “shine vampires” are people who had the shining themselves before their transformation, and maintain their psychic abilities - which include everything from astral projection to mind control....

Although it has trouble reconciling the differences between King and Kubrick’s The Shining, Doctor Sleep is an affecting horror drama on its own. Stephen King is not a fan of Stanely Kubrick’s The Shining (as he’s perfectly happy to tell you), and has reason not to be. Kubrick’s film not only plays down the primary themes of King’s original novel, it also makes its central character, Jack Torrance, into less of a tragic figure that he was in the book, and seems to regard the story’s humans in general as little more than insects with no real say in their fates....

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness risks having too many characters. When Marvel announced their Phase 4 plans, Doctor Strange 2 seemed to be the most exciting film in the entire slate. Unfortunately, in recent months it’s become a lot more concerning. Director Scott Derrickson suggested that Doctor Strange 2 would be Marvel’s first horror movie, bringing some much-needed tonal diversity to the MCU. Dodge today announced its 2018 Dodge Durango SRT at the Chicago Auto Show as its latest vehicle to come with Apple’s CarPlay platform stock. The three-row, 475-horsepower SUV sports a 8.4-inch touchscreen that utilizes Unconnect software to interface with CarPlay (and Android Auto) and a nine speaker BeatsAudio sound system.
