Now, the international market numbers for the film’s second weekend are in, and they’ve only reinforced the positivity of the film’s overall financial outlook. It would seem that the future Sorcerer Supreme has succeeded in casting quite the spell on audiences worldwide....

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for director Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep adaptation. Based on Stephen King’s sequel novel to The Shining (which he published in 2013), Doctor Sleep picks up with Danny Torrance as an older man who’s still psychologically scarred by what happened to him as a child. Ewan McGregor stars in the film version as the grownup Danny, who decides to try and get sober - having spent many years drinking in order to suppress his shining powers - and starts a job at a hospice where he uses his abilities to provide comfort to dying patients (earning him the eponymous nickname)....

The latest episode of Doctor Who, “Can You Hear Me?,” reintroduced a classic enemy called the Eternals - but also retconned their history and powers. Doctor Who season 12 has been a strange beast, with most episodes so overstuffed with ideas that could do with being turned into two-parters; “Can You Hear Me?” is just the latest example. The plot saw the Doctor and her fam stumble upon a powerful being named Zellin, a parasitic entity who was secretly manipulating them into freeing his fellow Eternal, Rakaya....

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has clarified that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will not be a horror movie. Marvel announced their Phase 4 slate at San Diego Comic-Con, and the Doctor Strange sequel immediately captured fans’ imaginations. This time round, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme will be joined by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch - possibly as an ally, possibly as an enemy. During the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at SDCC, director Scott Derrickson stated that he would be making the first scary MCU film....

The Doctor Who season 11 finale featured the return of this season’s first villain - Tzim-Sha, the would-be ruler of the Stenza who the Doctor insists on calling “Tim Shaw” - but it’s led to even more questions. It’s been over 3,000 years since Tim Shaw last crossed paths with the Doctor and her friends, and his mind has fractured over the course of the millennia. He’s gone full-on megalomaniac, seeking to destroy anyone who ever opposed the Stenza - even though the episode subtly implies the Stenza Empire has long since collapsed....

Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan makes a good counter argument against Martin Scorsese’s criticisms of Marvel films by using The Irishman director’s own words. The discussion continues regarding Scorsese’s comments about the MCU, dubbing its films “not cinema.” Over the last couple of weeks, various people have weighed in on the matter - some pushing back on the veteran filmmaker’s sentiments, while others agreed with him. The controversial topic caught second wind when Francis Ford Coppola came out and straightly called the franchise “despicable....

Marvel’s Doctor Strange had a lot of fun playing around with spatial reality by staging many of its biggest battles in the Mirror Dimension, a place where wizards can literally bend space at a whim. This led to all sorts of awesome Inception-like visuals, and became a big selling-point for the movie before it came out last November. Early trailers wowed audiences with scenes of whole cities being warped and distorted like so much folding paper; in the movie things got even more spectacular and, at times, downright psychedelic....

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue its expansion with Phase 3, starting in May with Captain America: Civil War and continuing in November with the introduction of the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange. The latter will also contribute to the expanding cosmic side of the MCU, which started last year with Guardians of the Galaxy. Although every new version of the Doctor brings a shuffled set of quirks and characteristics, the difference between the Twelfth and Thirteenth Doctors was pronounced. In her first season, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor was arguably the most moral incarnation of the Time Lord yet, always giving her enemies the benefit of mercy and chastising her companions for even vaguely looking in the direction of a gun....

Now that Jodie Whittaker has completed her first season as The Doctor, and established her place as the Thirteenth regeneration, the upcoming 12th season is set to feature a few familiar foes. As much as we’re enjoying Whittaker’s rapport with Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill as Graham, Ryan and Yaz, it’s always interesting when former companions meet new versions of the Timelord. Alan Cumming has been cast in a guest role for the forthcoming eleventh season of Doctor Who. Progress is continuing apace on Jodie Whittaker’s debut run as the iconic Time Lord meddler and filming is very much underway.
