As the scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands throughout Phase 3, we can expect that we’ll begin to see the varying sides of the comic book universe begin to rear their heads. Already, the earth side of Marvel has been mined to great extent with the majority of their MCU movies, and the galactic side has been opened up with Guardians of the Galaxy. While there’s still plenty of stories and characters to be culled from both of these areas of the universe, there’s one side that has yet to be seen on film: the magical and mystical side....

Doctor Who’s title famously demands answers from the mysterious, heroic Time Lord, but no detail is more elusive in the show than the Doctor’s age. Of course, secrecy is an obvious part of the Doctor’s mystique, but there are many reasons why audiences - and even the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) herself - cannot definitively say how old she is. Certainly, a life of time travelling makes it hard to keep track of your own personal time, especially when the Doctor frequently makes extended stopovers in different dimensions and eras....

Why did Billie Piper leave Doctor Who after the second season, only returning occasionally since? It’s easy to forget that showrunner Russell T. Davies was originally seen as taking something of a risk when he cast Billie Piper as the Doctor’s first companion in his Doctor Who relaunch in the mid-2000s. Piper was best known as a pop-star and had only recently begun her acting career. It didn’t take long for Piper to win any critics over, though....

BBC has just released a new logo design and poster artwork for Doctor Who season 11. Following the Christmas Special debut of Jodie Whittaker in the titular role, the 55-year-running series about a time and space-traveling alien will return in the fall, and its new logo appears to be ushering in the future, while also nodding to the past. Doctor Who is one of the longest-running television series in history, debuting all the way back in November 1963....

Doctor Who started its 12th season by mocking the fan reaction to a female Doctor. After a year long hiatus, Doctor Who returned with Jodie Whittaker at the helm of the TARDIS for her second season. While the 2017 announcement that Jodie Whittaker was cast as the 13th Doctor was mostly met with praise, there were some anti-female Doctor Who fans who were upset by the casting. Most of us are aware of the history of segregation in America. We know the names Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, and what they stood for. Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall made a brave, bold choice to set an episode in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955, with the Doctor and her friends not trying to alter the course of history, but rather, letting it all play out exactly as intended....

Barry Allen, Wally West, and several other Flashess have all made names for themselves by breaking sound barriers, and traveling through time with their use of the “Speed Force.” A cosmic force that controls both time and movement throughout reality. These incredible skills have led to some incredible feats… but Marvel Comics isn’t going to be give up without a fight....

Doctor Strange 2 may not be officially confirmed by Marvel yet, but the MCU sequel is reported to be in development. The first Doctor Strange movie was a reasonable success for Marvel, but it was the appearance of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War that really helped fans to warm to the character, and doubtless convinced Kevin Feige that the demand for a sequel was there. A Doctor Strange 2 would likely reunite Cumberbatch with director Scott Derrickson and co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo) and Benedict Wong (Wong)....

The Doctor has had more companions than you can count on Doctor Who, and it’s natural that he would be guilty of being unfair to some of them over the years. Likewise, as his companions have been far less experienced than him, they’ve been known to make big mistakes themselves. We’re not considering the Thirteenth Doctor in this list, as her tenure is currently ongoing which doesn’t leave room for finality....

Out of all the companions on Doctor Who, Donna Noble was the one who was short-changed the most. Back in season 4, Ten was forced to wipe the temp’s memories of their adventures after Donna was almost killed by the Time Lord-human-meta-crisis. Rose the Hat is the primary antagonist of Stephen King’s novel, Doctor Sleep, which was recently adapted into a film by Mike Flanagan; her rise to popularity has proven that horror needs more female villains. Though Doctor Sleep has done poorly at the box office, which was a surprise given the overall anticipation for and enthusiasm about the film, actress Rebecca Ferguson delivered a standout performance as something of an unconventional villain....

There has never been quite a time like now for comic book movies. After 2016 had six of these films from Marvel, WB, and Fox combined, 2017 and beyond is set to be even bigger. This year alone Marvel is releasing three (if we include Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as it is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe), WB has two, and Fox has one X-Men film, but there are actually at least 15 movies (both live-action and animated) based on comics coming out this year....

Doctor Who’s Tesla adventure was a fun episode with plenty of heart, but it also created a plot hole for season 12. Following last week’s disappointing “Orphan 55,” Doctor Who season 12 dusted itself down with the impressive “Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror,” an episode that combined interesting historical elements, scary villains and a standout performance from Goran Višnjić as the titular inventor. The plot sees Tesla attract the attentions of the Skithra, who definitely aren’t just recycled Racnoss, only for the Doctor and her companions to pick up on the disturbance and ride to the rescue....
